Why choose powder coating?
Powder coating is an environmentally friendly finish coating application and a great way to customize your projects. Available in virtually thousands of colors, powder coating provides for a durable, beautiful finish coat that will give years of lasting, carefree protection.
What are the benefits of powder coating?
These ingredients are melt mixed, cooled, and ground into a uniform powder similar to baking flour. Because powder coating is not liquid, it produces thicker coatings than conventional liquid coatings without running or sagging.
Powder coating produces minimal appearance differences between horizontally coated surfaces and vertically coated surfaces. Because no carrier fluid evaporates away, the coating process emits few volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Finally, several powder colors can be applied before curing them all together, allowing color blending and bleed special effects in a single layer.
How does powder coating work?
Using a specialized spray gun that applies a positive electrostatic charge to the powder particles, the parts are attached to grounded metal racks. Using compressed air, the spray gun sprays the powder toward the grounded object. The powder is accelerated toward the workpiece by the powerful electrostatic charge.
After application of the powder coating, we move the parts to the curing oven. With the addition of heat, the coating chemically reacts, creating long molecular chains. These molecular chains are very resistant to breakdown.
Powder coatings can also be applied to non-metallic substrates such as plastics and medium density fiberboard (MDF).
